A Steller sea lion, the largest of the eared seals, with a steel-belted tire around his neck in Alaska. Marine scientist Gary Freitag and his team from the Alaska Sea Grant were only able to release the animal under anesthesia with the help of a saw. Seals in particularl get often caught in waste and suffer a painful death.
